The West Midlands county of Worcestershire is a landlocked county bordering the Malvern Hills. It is a predominantly rural containing one city in the shape of Worcester and a few large towns such as Redditch and Bromsgrove. Worcester is also the county town. The Rivers Avon and Severn flow through the county.
Worcestershire is bordered by six other English counties. These are Herefordshire to the west, Gloucestershire to the south, Warwickshire to the east, a short border with Staffordshire to the north, West Midlands to the north east and Shropshire to the north west.
During the Industrial Revolution Worcestershire was known for a diversity of products including carpets, needles, gloves and salt (though this particular industry goes back to Roman times). It also has many fruit orchards.
Berrows Worcester Journal lays claim to being the oldest newspaper in the world to have maintained continual production and dates back to the late 17th century.
